Did some "WB" practice today in prep for an upcoming event. Good thing as I discovered my stock Remington R1 will NOT feed SWCs from the four unpadded mags I have. Further, two of them will not lock back or drop free from lock back.

Fortunately, I had some 230 LRN with me which the gun fed flawlessly, but I still had a problem with the two mags. Got several days to sort this out before the match .....  ???

PJ, I have had total reliability with MecGar's 7 rounders running everything I can stuff in them, including SWCs with cast bullets.

Some Lustrum ago, I was sought out by my discerning clientele to suss out problem Magazines.  I normally started by putting the Magazines someplace safe.  My Trash Can.  Then I suggested the customer source some new Magazines I knew to be reliable.   ;D   Magazines that fail are simply NOT worth the aggravation.   ;)

Agreed - good mags are worth what they cost. Messing with anything else is not worth it.

I have four new 7 rd Remington mags that came with two Remington 'Commanders' I bought. None of them will drop free or lock back the Remington R1 1911 I use in WB, but function perfectly in the 'Commanders'.

Seems it's a compatibility issue solved only by on range experience.

Maybe the R1 needs some tweaking?  Slide stop?

Or, conversely, Put the R-1 someplace .... "Safe."  ::)

Tripp builds top of the line mags. Very popular with WB crowd. Expensive but really nice.
Another mag that seems to run well is the ed Brown magazine. Here is the neat thing about EB mags. Right now they have a promotion you send them an old mag and 10.00 they send you a new mag. Great way to get rid of junk mags and get several new ones at a deal!

Dusty, thanks for the heads up on the Ed Brown mags. Gonna check that out.

I don't have my Brownell's catalog at hand, but if  Wilson/Rodgers make a Wild Bunch compatible magazine they are the Gold Standard. They are not inexpensive but they are tough as a two dollar steak.
At least that is my experience using them in IDPA  and IPSC.

Actually, I recently was made aware of Wilson magazines with the flat floor plate, which I did not know they made, and the price was only $21.95 IIRC.  Excellent for Wilson.  I was about to go that route to pick up some extras, but then found out about the Ed Brown trade-in.  I'm about to send them 5 old mags including one broken one and one bumper mag for 5 of theirs.

I used NOS  surplus mags for WB back a century ago when I was active.

I got my 5 Ed Brown stainless mags last week.  Approximately $70 including shipping mine to them and return shipping (so the more you do at a time, the more cost effective).  Not sure when I'll get a chance to test them, probably will be the next WB match!  So far my 1911 hasn't found a mag it didn't like (except a few didn't drop easily), so I hope that continues.

WB allows the Ed Brown Mags that do not flat have a flat base?

Still needs to be a flat base, although they just recently legalized a 1/4" thick leather pad.

Boggus Deal

The Ed Brown magazines are made by CheckMate, the same company that makes 1911 mags for Colt. The best mags out there. The way too expensive Tripp mags keep losing the base plate. Sure, for $5 they?ll weld them back on. I prefer to buy a good mag cheaper and not have to pay them to fix it.
