Browning lifter question

I noticed on my new to me Rifle that the lifter doesn't rise until the very end of the lever stroke, and then a bit of effort at the last and it will snap up. Is that normal? Or is there an adjustment needed? Timing?

Perfectly normal.  That effort can be reduced somewhat with some appropriate tuning, but the timing of the lifter rise is just the way Browning designed it.

Presuming the modern Browning M1886 is a reasonable copy of John Moses' design, it wasn't intended to be worked slowly. Brisk levering is the way he intended, at least that is the case with every original '86 I've owned and shot. Good luck with your new rifle.
