I just picked up a NIB Cimarron 51navy conversion and it is exellent. I only own one other cowboy 38 and wanted to add a second to further enjoy my 38colt shells with. I went with the authentic 7.5'' barrel 38cal, navy grip, standard blue finish which is exactly what I wanted. Typical of Cimarron fit and finish were perfect and the stocks were from a nice cut of walnut. Cylinder scene and barrel adress were deep and even also. The cylinder gap eyeballed a .006 which concerned me at first but turned out to cause no problem at all. After degreasing and relubing with TC bore butter and smoothing the hand and sear I headed to the feild. Loads will permanently be my 38 long colt which is pan lubed 158gr LRN  over 17gr weight Goex FFF with CCImag primers. I've had good luck shooting Lazer cast 38's with BP, their proportionatly bigger grease groove allows me to shoot a whole box without loss of accuracy which I cant say for their 45's. At the range the first 5 shots did an inch one handed at 5 yards with the second doing about 2.5'' at 10 yards. POI which I was seriously worried about turned out to be the optimal 1 inch above poa dead center. My 72 opentop shoots low and my real 51 navy only hits the target if I aim for the truck, so I 'm very pleased with POI. I took a 1 foot square sheet of steel out to 20yards and had no problem ringing it 5 out of 5 shots. Thanks to the gas ring I had no binding whatsoever and shot the entire box without cleaning. This was the cherry on top for me as I have a gun that will maintain accuracy and run without cleaning, I see many pleasant range trips in our future. While cleaning the gun later I saw a nice grease star at the end of the muzzle which shows my loads are good enough for the long barrel. While cleaning the brass I saw only one of the primers had pierced and it had been the first shot. Like the open tops and 60 army conversion this thing has a vicious firing pin, but no worries as I have my emery cloth close at hand. Price was $439.00 and I couldnt be happier as I now have a second 38colt in a more historical fashion that the Opentop. Here a pic of somebodys that looks like mine.

Nice review by the way.
It inspires me even further to do a conversion with load-gate on one of my nicer Pietta 1851's.
Thanks, and enjoy your pistol, and am sure you are ! Congrats !!!!
