Original 58s with shortened barrels?

Been thinkin' on a pair of the Remingtons with 5 1/2-inch barrels. Question for the fire is how many of you have actually seen original Remington 58s in museums or other collections with shortened barrels? I have seen a number of original Colt revolvers shortened to varying degrees including all the way to belly gun, but never a Remington that got the custom bob.

A quick run to my bookshelf.  Bruce mcDowells book, A study of colt Conversions and other percussion revolvers, page 58.

A five shot rim firem conversion is shown at figure  3-57.  The barrel is 6 3/4 in long.  The front sight has been reset, and no other changes were required.  I have a bookmark at this page as i am thinking of this modification myself.  I have a neat "slim-jim" holster that would be a perfect match.

As originally manufactured from the Remington factory,  I have never seen anything other than the standard-length barrels on original New Model Army's & New Model Navy's.

I have seen many different barrel lengths when modified by frontier gunsmiths, and different barrel lengths on cartridge conversions (factory and non-factory).

While not technically historically correct,  I still love my Pietta 5 1/2" Remington a lot!

  Me too.  I have Walt Kirst's conversion in them.  BP cartridges only.

I have a pair of 7 1/2" that I shoot C & B with as well.

Due to over zealous installation of the front sight and the rammer latch on my 2005 Pietta '58 Rem, I have had to cut 2 inches off the bbl. Indentations into the rifling was the cause. I'll have a Kirst 44 Rem conversion in this pistol soon. I'm dovetailing the front sight(new made by me) and the rammer latch(modified by me).
Hope it shoots better than with the indentations. It should.
