Sad state of affairs

I gotta tell you, it's a mighty sad situatiion when, at 6:00p.m. on Sunday, three weeks before Christmas, in Los Angeles, California, the best thing on broadcast TV is Mars Attacks!

It was on yesterday and they felt it was worthy of a repeat.

Does anyone take seriously the claim that broadcast TV is in trouble because of cable?

Couldn't tell you, I'm working from 18:00 - 06:00, 7 days a week, so I haven't a clue as to what's on.

I'm almost in the same boat with LG, 1800 - 0600 I'm out on the beat!

However, I did have an enjoyable evening with Renegade Angel the other night, watching an older TV series on CD. Anyone ever watch "Firefly"? It's kinda a spacegoing horse opera with Ron Glass as a 'minister"! LOL!! It's a pretty good example of the old B westerns taken into a futuristic format...along with "anachronistic" weapons. I particularly enjoy Zoe's cut down 92!

And ya gotta love lines like "There is a special place in Hell for child molesters and people who talk in theaters" :D ;D :D

Cuts,

Firefly is a great series.  Some of my favorite quotes (including the one you referenced)
Sincerely,

Prof. A. Wickwire

QuoteMal: Oh, I'm gonna go to the special hell.
QuoteWash: Oh, my God. What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's flying this thing? Oh, right, that would be me. Back to work.
QuoteMal: You know, they tell ya to never hit a man with a closed fist but it is, on occasion, hilarious.
QuoteZoë: Shepard, isn't the Bible kind of specific about killing?
Book: Very specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzy around the area of kneecaps.
QuoteBook: People like a man of God.
Mal: No, they don't. Men of God make people feel guilty and judged.
QuoteMal: You know, they say mercy is the mark of a great man. [stabs the man]
Mal: Guess I'm just a good man. [stabs him again]
Mal: Well, I'm all right.
QuoteSimon: I'm trying to put this as delicately as I can. How do I know you won't kill me in my sleep?
Captain Reynolds: You don't know me, son, so let me explain this to you once. If I ever kill you you'll be awake. You'll be facing me. And you'll be armed.
QuoteRiver: The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds, given adequate vacuuming systems.
Mal: See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with. Long as she does it quiet-like.
Now where did I put that fuming nitric acid?

Does anyone smell smoke?

I can't think of a better one. I recently rented all four disks with the whole series on it. What a great series, they really did it right. Certainly not your normal TV nonsense. ;)

I agree with Forty Rod on this one (Did I really say that?). I watch a lot of my local PBS programs instead except for a very few network shows that are still on.

Only about five PBS shows worth the effort, too, and the local video store is running out of decent rentals that I haven't seen several times.

One of the downsides of aging: I've seen so much that most of what's left if painfully boring.

A movie is being touted right now that's the first one in ten years that I rreall want to see, and I have no idea why: Aeon Flux looks like it'll be a blast.  Probably won't be, but I'm used to disappointment.

BTW, it's okay to agree with me, Denny.  The more times people agree with me, the more often they're right.  Doesn't even matter what the subject is, just agree with Forty Rod and you'll be on the money.   ::)

Four-Eyed Buck

Personally, History Channel and Discovery and the Weather Channel when PBS doesn't interest me.......Buck 8) :o
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Forty Rod

Personally, I won't pay for TV unless there is NO other way to get it.  Can't see paying for 185 channels and still finding nothing fit to watch.

Wymore Wrangler

Forty Rod isn't the Western Channel in those 185 Channels?????    ;D
Fast horses for sale, Discount for newly minted gold coins, no questions asked....

Forty Rod

Could be.  I might even watch if I didn't have to pay for it.

If I pay to watch a movie I want a candy and soda and popcorn bar out front, and ushers in uniform with flashlights.  Otherwise I'll rent it or buy it.

Forty Rod, you'll be proud to know I don't have cable/satallite TV either. If I can't get it over my antenna I don't need it.

US Scout

Regular broadcast and even most cable TV is the reason I have a large collection of movies on DVD.  I can watch a good western instead of the trash they show.

However, we do watch a fair amount of History and Discovery Channel, and PBS (we love British mysteries and comedy in our house).

Major 2

Funny,  I though it was just me....
I seem to hear everywhere about this Survival show or that reality show on the networks and how hooked they are on them  ::).

I have satalite and the only time I watch network is for the 6PM News (sometimes) mainly if a hurricane is headed our way.

otherwise it's Discovery Ch , History Ch , Speed, Spike, or TCM.... I don't even have the pay for view Extra Channels
when planets align...do the deal !
