1860 spencer carbine

  I recently purchased a 1860 Spencer carbine serial number 15597.  I am looking for any history  that is available for it.

I looked up the serial number, and it falls within a block (15327-15804) issued to  the L company of the 2nd Michigan Volunteer Cavalry in 1864. The closest exact match listed is 15547, only 50 numbers off. I would be fairly certain that yours was issued to the MI 2nd volunteers.
