Hello, I am also looking at a real clean M1865 Burnside contract rifle. I was reading that it looked like production was in the 30,000 range?
The one I have found is in he 33,900 range, and says Model 1865, and also has the 1860 patent date.. any info would be great. Thanks..

Hello,

To the best of my knowledge, there is NO serial # information available for 1865 Spencers and Burnside Spencers.  Recorded and listed serial #s appear only for 1860 Civil War Spencers.

Scott are you selling your ONLY Spencer and do you still want to join SSS?  Let me know again by Email?

Gtbpappy,

If you find a Burnside Spencer contract with an Inspectors stamp on the stock it will be one of the ones delivered to and accepted by the Gov. under the contract.
It seems Burnside made more Spencer's than the Gov. contract called for. These were sold to private individuals and/or groups. It is not known for sure how many more were made and sold this way. SS#'s maybe anywhere within and without the total contract SS# range of the contract.
I hope this may help?

My best,
