Authentic C&B holster

I'm doing a little research for my next holster, I'm wanting something authentic for my 1860 army. Here's a pic of my '60 army in a Camano Ridge holster (the holster was made for a SAA) I'm just wanting to see what models are out there other then a slim jim, and the typical military holsters. https://imgur.com/a/ky4nC

About the only thing appropriate for the 1860 is a Slim Jim or modified military holster.

I think anything pre 1870 is going to be a slim jim or military.   I do believe there were early versions of loop holsters appearing in 1870s, they were not the Cheyenne loops with full skirt.  They had an almost full round skirt behind with a single loop high on the holster.   I would suggest getting a copy  of Packing Iron, it is a great source for information.

I read somewhere that the loop holster evolved from the military flap holster. Someone turned the flap over behind the bucket and cut slits into it so the bucket could be slipped through the slits. The holster was then mounted onto the belt making the gun more accessible.

One thing to consider is whether you want your M1860 to be worn butt-forward on the right side, cavalry style, butt-rear on the right, or crossdraw on the left side (presuming you are right handed. Also, do you want an open top holster, or with a half- or full flap for protection from weather.  Slim jim's were the predominant style until the mid-1870's or so.  Interestingly, the Pattern of 1863 military holster could handle the Remington New Model Army, the M1860 Colt's Army and by chance worked just fine for the Colt's Single Action Army when it was introduced.  The military holsters were black, and many of the civilian models were as well, although they could be brown.
