Does the "Quigly" Sharps this Saturday.  Tune in to see how bad they screw it up!

Gotta agree with you there Drydock, the show is kind of stinky. It can't decide if it wants to be scientificish original mythbusters or be silly funny. Doesn't do either.

Thanks, I didn't know about the show. We watched it and found it to be good. The Sharps shooting was done with the help of a national champion and made the Hollywood spin exceptable. I liked the ballistic gell in the targets.

Yeah, the Sharps episode wasn't too bad but the goofy guy wouldn't shut up and let Tom talk.

How did the double kill shot work out?

They both managed to hit both torso targets shooting prone off the saddle. I was actually surprised that happened. I was thinking the bullet at 800 yds would be falling so much as to hit the first guy in the chest but the second in the leg or not at all.

Quigley down under was on first and then the Hollywood weapons. It got my blood boiling
to go out and shoot my Sharps.  We had the actual gun from the movie at our NCOWS
convention a few years back, got my picture taken, holding it but we had to wear white gloves
and they pretty much ruined the picture. Insurance value was $100,000. Shiloh made 3 for the
movie, and one was aluminum for stunts I believe.

I heard there was a rubber one for stunts.

A number of sources have said that at first all three were fully functional rifles with steel barrels, but it was found to be too heavy for scenes where he had to swing the rifle (in fight scenes, for example). One rifle was returned to Shiloh to have an aluminum barrel installed. Not that I was there, of course, but I've heard that story several times.

Well CC Griff, you probably heard right.  I may be thinking of some other movie for the rubber rifle.  The Wikipedia page for the movie states:

"Three fully functional .45-110 rifles matching the above description were built for the film in 1989 by the Shiloh Rifle Co. of Big Timber, Montana, United States. They also had a 15 1⁄4 inch length of pull to fit Selleck's tall frame, a full octagon heavy barrel with a blue finish, and weighed 13 1⁄2 pounds. Due to the weight, one of the rifles was sent back to Shiloh to be refitted with an aluminum barrel so it could be swung faster (as a club) in fight scenes."

The Wikipedia quote is so similar to my memory that I wonder if it was somewhere in my subconscious. I don't remember reading that, but I must have done--it sounds like I just rephrased what they said.  Interesting...  Hey! Maybe I wrote the Wikipedia article and just forgot!
