This rifle gets its own thread!  You may remember I originally got a Taylor's 1860 Henry in .45 Colt.   I loved it, but...I did not like black powder or subs, especially with the .45 Schofield ".44 Henry Duplication" loads.  In the past, I had a 44-40 Henry, and wished I had gotten it instead. :-X

Well shucks. First I tried getting a 44-40 Henry barrel mounted, but it was an early barrel and the threaded shank was over 1/2" too short for the more recent, slightly longer (sic- stronger) receivers.  The cost would be prohibitive.   ??? So I sold it to get a .44-40.

Along the way, I got a great deal on an Like New in Box, Taylor's 1866 24" Sporting Rifle in .44-40 (with an action job!) for a price I could not say no to.  A great place holder, but still not a Henry!

Then it happened, our pard MT Marfield decided he needed room for his newly ordered 1866 Rifle Musket, and sold me his Like New in Box Henry for an incredible deal! ;D

It arrived at my dealer yesterday.  In the box, with original papers... Literally looks unfired (though he says it has a box and a half of Cowboy loads through it)!  It is a Uberti "Military Model" 1860 Henry in .44-40, complete with sling swivels and a butt trap for cleaning rod.  He even included a reproduction 4 piece Henry cleaning rod in the stock.  I am "In Love" though I better not let my wife catch me fondling it!  She just won't understand!  I have to wait the requisite draconian 10 waiting period for iot (and my Richards Type II Conversion from Cimarron).

A shout out to a great pard...MT Marfield!  Thanks again.  I am a happy cowboy

I will post pics soon....

A most Harmonious circumstance indeed.  Have you found a sling for it yet??  Martial Henry needs a sling.

Yes sir, I got one from S&S Gear. Correct hook and all.  They got a lot of my business 10-15 years ago when I was a Civil War re-enactor.

When I finish paying for my engineered septic system that was $3,000 over budget, I'm getting a set of springs for it.

   Greetings, TL!

Glad all is well, after the Ordeal that we went through to get it to You! Knowing that the Henry
arrived safely, and into Good Hands eases the pain of separation...!
I may be a weirdo, but I Really Like the notion of having a wiping rod in the buttstock of a rifle,
for the many practical reasons that I deem too obvious to enumerate. I wish that my soon-to-be
Win. 1866 Infantry Rifle was to be so equipped...
Winds kept me from 'papering' groups, restricting me to metallic targets; please do let me know
if it's as accurate as I believe that it should be.

    Until Then...

          ENJOY!

          Yours,

                  M.T.Marfield

WOw, I got to shoot the 44-40 Henry at a match today.  Shot clean with it.  dead nuts on at 10-15 yards.  My loads were a might tight in the chamber, and looking at them, I think I am hitting them too hard withe the factory crimp die, causing a slight bulge below the case  mouth, even using a .428 bullet.  I'll give a little more taper crimp and less LEE factory crimp die, and see what happens.  I love it a lot more than the .45 Colt/Schofield I sold to get this one.  Rifles like the Henry should be in a rifle caliber like 44-40.  My Trail Boss loads (7.0 grains with a 200/205 bullet) give about 1120 fps from the Henry for about the same as the original 44 Henry load.

Ok, so I'm curious.  When did Uberti start making a copy of the Winchester model 1866 MUSKET?

Update:  Shot the 44-40 Military Henry at the local match yesterday. It loves the 7 grains of trail Boss under a 200 grain bullet.  Shot clean with the rifle, including clay pigeons at 25 yards, and a ram at 25 yds, 50 yds, and 75 yards!  I never had to adjust the sights, it just keep banging the targets! ;D

Thank you again MTMarfield!
