Here is one for the pistolsmiths , Having the Idea that converting an 1849 Colt type replica to .32 Long/Short Colt Heel bullet . I have the reamers for doing the job .   Do any of you fellow's that may have a 49" Uberti know the Bore/ Groove  measurements . And cylinder measurements. The only way I would do it is if I could lathe cut the original cylinder and ream it for the .32 Lc/Sc . Bullet about .314" Case about .316/17  and any lenth . If anyone see's that this would have a Kink in it . Please let me know . Thank 's for the help in advance . ,,,DT  PS Major if this should be in Gunsmiths //// Please put it there . Figured the guys would  see it  here too.

Sounds like fun.  Uberti specs the .31 cal bore as .31" and groove as .325"

Thank You Abilene , Well that may not work very well . I was thinking a groove of about .312 " - .314"  . If bigger my loading  equipment and the .32 Long Colt would be small for accurate shooting . ,,,,DT

I've done all kinds of strage conversions and gun modifications.  The past several years I have gotten quite lazy.  Finding .32 Colt brass is difficult.  Finding heal based bullets is difficult.  Loading the ammo, especially cirmping, is difficult.  The easy, peazy way to go is to buy a conversion cylinder in .32 S&W.  Shoots regulars and longs.  Easy to come by, easy to load.  Just plain easier.

Thanks for your input Pettifogger , The .32 Long Colt ammo is not an issue with me , I have two guns so chambered and enough ammo to shoot and reload for them for a long time . Actually if you have loaded the .32 Long/Short Colt Heel bullet you know it is very easy to seat the bullet with a firm case grip without issue . Was thinking about doing a frontier gunsmith conversion on a Uberti or other replica 1849. Thought the little .32 Colt Heel bullet cartridge would be just right for this kind of conversion. After reading what Abilene wrote about the bore/groove dimensions , I may re-think it . Seeing balls listed for the 32 colt cap n ball at .310"-.315  range I thought the chamber should be just under the reamer size for .32 LC. That would be good . My .32LC heel bullets go about .314" - .315"  .   May just work.  Where is that Coffinbuilder when you need him . ,,,,DT

Dixie Gunworks catalog lists specs for Uberti 1849 Pocket:
1:48" twist
7 Lands - .310
7 Grooves - .332
Cylinder chamber diameter - .319

How close to those specs an individual gun may be in real life I don't know.

Thanks LonesomePigeon .  That groove size is bigger than I would have guessed. .011 per side Wow !  if the chamber cuts a ball  @ .319" it would have to bump up .013 to fill the groove .  Guess I'll just wait until I get a chance to measure one , Thanks Again for your input ,,,DT
