Turning 65 has it's perks, you get to sign up for medicare, save a couple bucks on your haircut and the movies. Plus you get all those nice prepaid funeral offers in the mail everyday. When my wife asked what I needed for my birthday, I thought, I don't really need anything. But, I could always use another Spencer. So here it is, my new Spencer sporting rifle. Jw

She is a 56-46 sporting rifle in excellent condition. Fancy wood with no cracks just a few handling marks and numbered to the gun. The fore arm has a pewter nose cap. Fitted with a Spencer rear tang sight and hooded front. All metal surfaces clean with no pitting, action smooth and tight with a crisp light trigger. The 26" round barrel has excellent rifling. It is the nicest Spencer I have ever handled. Jw

I am very envious ,out of interest what type of extractor does it have and the serial number range.I hope you plan to shoot it ,if ao a follow up range report would be great

Herbert, It has the blade type extractor, serial # 58469. After waiting a year and a half, I have a set of 56-46 dies and may shoot it. Jw

Have you done a chamber cast ,a lot of these first lot of sporting rifles were chambered for the 56-46 long Spencer cartridge,a much better cartridge in my mind than the latter 56-46 Spencer cartridge in my mind,I formed cases for booth using the CH4 56-46 dies with success,the bore also should be measured to see weather you have to use a heeled bullet or get away with a 300gr .458 bullet.You have a lot of fun ahead of you

Herbert, I have not done a chamber cast or slugged the bore yet. I have just been giving it a good look over and can find no fault with it. I have not yet gotten over the pain of getting my other 56-46 to shoot. At least I have a set of CH4 56-46 dies on hand this time and I don't believe this one has an oversize bore. Jw
