something i've noticed...
« on: May 03, 2017, 06:26:30 PM »
being new to the 1873 six gun world I've looked at a lot of videos on youtube.

on some of the Uberti's I've seen a few hammers that seem to have a longitudinal slot machined in the back of the hammer.

Hickok45's video of his Uberti shows an example of this.

is this a feature of the retractable firing pin like on the Cattleman II?

my stainless version only has the small round hole in line with the firing pin.

can anyone shed some light on this for me?

thanks.

Chaindrive,
It's an access/clearance hole where the safty block is located.  My El Patron Comp has this safety.  The block deploys when the hammer is in the "safety" notch. It is a solid steel block that obstructs the hammer in the hammer slot. It is an extremely well thought out mechanism. I feel perfectly safe carrying 6 rounds.
