Using the Spencer carbine sling swivel

Would the sling have been attached to this butt swivel, then perhaps snapped or buckled to the saddle ring so the carbine could be slung over the shoulder when dismounted?

Hello:

As pictured in several books and a SEARCH here should reveal:

An approx. 2" wide, buckle - belt "cuff" fits/ slides loosely over the barrel near the forearm.
That cuff has an attachment point for the sling that also attaches to the butt stock swivel.

Searching here may produce a picture.
