Hi everyone new to the forum here I wanted to see if you guys can help me get my Spencer on target. I have the full size rifle version and it seems to shoot about two feet to the right. I load with black powder, a .512 RCBS bullet, no wads, and 1/8 compression. I really like the rifle I just want to be able to shoot a decent group with it at 100yrds. One thing I do notice when I seat the bullet is the die leaves a ring on the bullet not sure if thats whats causing the problem with accuracy.

Hello:

Although it is probably not your load if your group is relatively tight, please send a photo or ask Two Flints, our Moderator, to post it. The "ring" should not be there.

Two FEET is a lot, at most any distance.

For starters, please help us isolate the cause so we know if the off-center grouping is either you or the gun?
Did you purchase the rifle new or used?
What is the distance and group size?
If a used rifle, perhaps the last owner can tell you if it did the same thing for him?

Carefully examine the muzzle in bright light with a magnifying glass.  Look for dings at the very edges where the rifling stops.  An almost imperceptible ding can cause off-center grouping and bullet holes thar are "tipped or relatively oval" in shape.  Look carefully at the holes.
If new, do the sights appear reasonably centered on the barrel?
Are you shooting off of a rest?
Is there some sort of gun steering pressure being placed on the gun during the bullet's passage down the barrel in recoil?  Guns "shoot away" from rests and pressure.  Heavy cheek, forward shoulder or hand pressures can steer the shot off of the sight picture during the follow-through.
Might seem unnecessary, but how about having a good shooting friend shoot it - the same way you do to see if the results are similar to yours?

These issues will help us rule out preliminary factors.

Pay attention to that soft voice in your head.

Try shooting at 25 yards just to see where your at.
