Go with a steel frame only. I like the 1851 Colts in 44 cal (not made by Uberti). Ubertis are slightly better than Pietta but Piettas are a close second with their newer production. Cabelas often has BP revolvers on sale quite reasonably priced. Remingtons lack the elegance of the Colts but are strongly built. I like just about everything C&B.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

Horsefeathers.  Poppycock.  Strictly personal preference.  Appearance wise, Uberti built guns have all the right roll stamps, dates, markings, the cosmetics.  Mechanically, Uberti guns have issues beyond the normal.  Uberti guns seldom if ever have correct Barrel to
arbor fit, and until that critical area is resolved, any other "tuning" is waisted.  Uberti's offerings take a ton of work to get to run.

Pietta guns are just as well made, and far easier to set up for CAS play.  Barrel to arbor fit is almost always correct.  The Pawl/Hand
lends itself better to coil spring and plunger conversion.  Pietta bugaboo is fit of the bolt to the cylinder slots.  Before playing with your
new Pietta, fit the bolt to the cylinder.

Both need SlixShot nipples and reduced Main Springs to be really user friendly.

Coffinmaker:  are Pietta mainsprings too light?  Where to go for new ones, please?  And are Slixshot nipples better than TOW's offering?  I installed all new TOW nipples on my Pietta's and Uberti revolvers at quite an expense, and found the ones for the 51 Navy Piettas, .011" short, which at first caused ignition issues.

Dum De Dum De Dum De Dum .......... Oh, I was just wandering along, being a pain in the neck ..........
I gotta go back a post or two ......... Avoid Brass Frame guns like the plague.  Hellgate be spot on with that little tidbit.  Brass frame guns
in .44 have a distinct tendency to shoot loose very quick when shot with normal loads.  Pretty though.

Are Pietta Main Springs too light??  No, they are actually too heavy as far as I am concerned.  Understanding though, I DO NOT shoot
OEM nipples.  I shoot SlixShot nipples on everything.  I have several preferences for Main Springs.  I like the after-market light main
spring from VTI Gunparts.  I like the after-market spring kit from Lee's Gunsmithing, thru Brownells.  I grudgingly like the Wolff Main
Spring.  All three are very smooth with very little, if any, stacking.

I have no experience TOW's nipples.  However, I do have experience with Treso vs SlixShot.  I prefer the SlixShot nipples over everything
else I have tried.  Better ignition, better flame travel, back pressure relief, proper fit, correct length.  I don't think there are any better
nipples than SlixShot.  Many folks swear by Treso, I don't care for em.

Incidentally, I just finished a three day annual match with side events, six stages each day, my kind of shooting weekend.  Lots and lots of
BOOMBAH.  Absolutely NO miss-fires, NO hiccups, NO problems, three days of shooting, Pietta Snubbies (.44s) with SlixShot nipples and
reduced main springs.  Oh, and I shot it CLEAN!!

Hope I didn't miss anything  ;D

I suggest reading up in the archives. There's waaay more to shooting C&B / revolver specifics than you'll get reading one thread.
