Hey there,

i´ve seen some vids on youtube of the disassembly of those short barreled Remington 1858 NMA made by Pietta.
Is it correct, that you can´t disassemble the axis?

Your answer is for sure historically correct.
My english is not so good, i´m a descendant of those axis  ::)

Back to topic, i mean the cylinder pin.  Is it possible to remove the cylinder pin or does it touch the loading lever retainer?

hellgate

The cylinder pin comes out fine. You have to drop the rammer (loading lever) out of the way. Sometimes you need a wooden dowel to tap on the wings of the cylinder pin to move it forward to pull it out.

Fritz,

Some/many of the Remington reproduction revolver use a bit of extra material on the frame where the barrel screws in. Where the cylinder pin "wings" fit.

With a little bit of filing in this area, this can be removed, allowing you to remove the cylinder bin by hand.
The original Remington's could be remover by hand once the loading lever was dropped.

The cylinder pin cannot be removed from the 5.5" barreled Remington.  It hit on the loading lever catch.  The only way to get it
off the gun is the drive the catch out of the dove tail.  You can make a 2 piece cylinder pin that has a hinge in it that will work.
If I can find a picture I will post it.

Found it scroll down

Found a picture of that 2 piece cylinder pin.

THANKS!

I made my own 4" Remington by hacking the barrel & loading rod, reshaping & fitting the front sight & barrel latch stud 15+ yrs ago.
I made the barrel as short as possible ......and still be able to remove the cylinder  ;)

My cylinder pin is now captured since the stud is soldered in, so there it shall stay. No real reason to remove the pin. No problems cleaning the revolver.

Here is the way I fixed the problem with my little stubby. The barrel is 3-1/2".

I recall that the dovetail is not tight on the lever latch stud, and sliding it out allows the cylinder pin to be removed, but then, my short Remingtons are Uberti, the Pietta may be different.
