Bought a LEE, three pcs . reloading set,,,40/60,,seated bullet ( 210gr.) couldn't get it to crimp, backed seater stem out pushed case ( by hand ,,making dummy rds.) up to bottom of die,,zilch!! not even a hit of a crimp. Am I doing something wrong,,??? Has anyone had this happen w/ LEE'S,,i have had several sets of LEE'S,,of different cals'. no problem's,,. I even tried a case w/ out a bullet,,no hint of a crimp.

My thoughts are that the cases may be too short or the die out of spec, maybe too long.  Careful examination of each should reveal the cause.

The DooHiccus is obviously not adjusted for, connected to, or machined to compensate properly for the Framasand.    ;)   Or

Plus one above.  It is also possible the incorrect Die was Miss-Marked (gorgeous girl by the way) by Lee and shipped out in your box.  My first thought since the case does not contact a "crimp ring or step" is a call to Lee is in order.

The other solution is to poop can all your 40/60 stuff and just buy new stuff that fits your Die Set  ::)

COFFIN,,,Just got off the phone w/(PETE) LEE, have to send die set to them,w/ note of said problem& 2- brass,,i also sent a couple of bullets ,,just in case . Pete ask me ck. the crimping die ,,does it say " 40-60,or 40-65?? It is stamped 40-60. I thought w/ this set I would not need the factory crimp die,,i could be wrong. I ask if this had been a problem w/ the 40-60's,,REPLY "No they are made to MIDWAY'S spec's.",,,PETE,,nice feller to visit with.

Blackfoot: Even if the case's were a tad short,,shouldn't you be able to adjust the die to still crimp?  We all seem to think the die is ,,just a little out of spec. Thank's for listening.

Hey,,Coffin,, that's how I use't do it ,,,now the only 2 toof's I have left ,,are too far apart.

Hootmix.

pony express

If the 2toofs are too far apart to crimp a .40 cal, then the obvious solution is.......

Get something in a bigger caliber!

Go with a .50, if too far apart for that, then maybe you need a .577 Snyder.

Ummm... I may be mistaken, but isn't the seating die in the newer LEE 3 die sets only for seating  (dead length seater version) with no crimp provision as the the 3 die rifle set has the crimp specific die.

And only the two die sets still have the seat and crimp function in the same die. (RGB and Pacesetter die sets)

ahh here it is:
http://leeprecision.com/bullet-seating-die-only-complete.html

(note: I THINK this is for rifle dies only. I THINK pistols still have the crimp function with the seating die)

Slamfire

Johnny,,, you could be right ,,,,BUT, I ordered the "three die set ",,( I thought) w/ crimping die,,,more than likely my mistake. Don't you just hate fine print ,,in,1/2 " LETTER'S,!!!.Be gone this week to "BOOT & SADDLE SHOW"@ WF.,TX. will talk w/PETE @ LEE,monday. Look's like i'm going have  to get a set of store bought's  with .40 cal. gap( lol, lol, lol,)

ok , found the discription on  the LEE site:

Lee 40/60 Very Ltd. Production 3-Die Set. Includes:

1) Full Length Sizing Die
2) Bullet Seating Die
3)Powder Thru Expanding Die
   Universal Shell Holder
   Instructions.
To be Discontinued 2017

Seems your set should seat bullet and crimp bullet in one die.

Ok, well I was thinking wrong. Not the first time  ;)

Let us know what Pete says

Slamfire

YEA',,Johnny,

, went back ,,reread the disc. my self,,,,and by the way the "universal holding die!!" ,,not ,,new Jamison brass,,NOT!!!

HAVE TO TRIM RIM!!! O'well,,such is life!!!.

Thanks     Hootmix.

Well .... Sometimes ya just gotta "Bite The Bullet"   ::) ;D

Use caution with the stick-on wheel weights. A lot of them are made from Zinc. One zinc WW will contaminate an entire pot. The bullets will eventually fall apart.

If it floats to the top and doesn't seem to want to melt, get out of there asap.

Slamfire

HEY,RICK,,,Thanks for the warn'n,,,"DIE UP DATE",,,,,Talked to PETER,@ LEE,this am,,milled die down,,( didn't say how much),but used the brass& bullet's I had sent w/ the die's,,said the die will crimp!!! The brass & bullets are for dummy rounds. SOOO A COUPLE MORE DAYS. ,,,,,,,Coffin,,,sometimes ,,we do.(lol-lol-)
