Is this true or can they be special ordered or something?

I spoke to Gary Granger a few months ago when ordering my guns and was told the following:

  • The Cowboy single action price point was so close to the Premium (when they lowered prices), that most people opted for the Premium.  Thus they stopped producing it.
  • The Lightning is out of production because it was more profitable to use the CNC machines to produce SAA's, thus they put all their production into the revolvers.
I also asked them if they could still assemble one for me, but received no reply to my email.  In a later conversation with the parts department, I was told that they don't have any remaining barrels for the Lightning.

Thus I prowled the websites like Gunbroker until I found a new one for sale.  You'll need to do the same if you want one.  Gary did tell me that they only produced about 400 of the Lightning rifles commercially.  I've enjoyed mine so far, and it has proven reliable.

I had to do the same as you as far as getting a Lightning. I love mine!

Yep, my only regret is that the one I found is the carbine version.  I really prefer the longer octagon barrels on the rifles.  Maybe some day I'll have to see about getting a rifle barrel made and put on it - when I have a few extra coins.
