What is the case capacity difference between the .45 Cowboy Special and the .45 Schofield?  Can the 73s and 66s be made to work with the schofield round?

I don't know the case capacity difference.  Same as the difference between .45 ACP and .45 Schofield.  Yes, most toggle-link guns will work fine with the Schofield round if the bullet isn't too short.  Example: Black Hills Ammo makes Schofield with 180gr and 230gr bullets.  The 180gr rounds are too short and will jam the carrier.  The 230gr feed fine.  I load 250gr (standard common smokeless bullets.  The standard 200gr would have the same OAL) in Schofield and they feed fine in my '73.

The load I use which is 1.3 c/c (not 1.2) volume of FFFg and a 210 grain bullet is a pretty close replica of the original center fire Henry cartridge, and since those cases were made of plain copper which is pretty soft, I would imagine that blow back was not a problem.

That CS case is so short that annealing the neck would be very difficult if not impossible so i don't worry about it. The blow back with that load in the Henry is not all that much and along with the positive slam down lifter arm makes my rifle very dependable and accurate.
