I took my new acquisition to the Grand Muster last week, shot the last stage as a single shot. I liked the way it handled. I had a lot of fun at the muster, looking forward to the Missouri dept muster at the end of July. As acquired, the Hotchkiss was hard to load the magazine, rounds wouldn't advance from the magazine. Disassembled & fed rounds through the magazine tube, found & corrected a pinch point. Would now load OK, still hanging on the feed. Ordered a Uberti 1866 large caliber magazine tube spring, cut to 4" longer than the tube, feeding good now.

It was fun to watch him shoot it, and it worked quite well!  One of the really cool things about the National Muster is the old hardware you get to see in action.

6420 1st model, (1001 in military config, 500 rifles, 501 carbines).
16000 2nd model (500 military config carbines).
60000 3rd model.

S&S has a repro Hotchkiss cutoff, surprised to find it is for the 1st model.

So it runs correctly as a repeater now?

It works as a repeater after I removed a kink in the magazine tube, & replaced the spring. It now can operate with the bypass, but hard to turn.

After I restocked a 1st model Navy, the safety/mag cutoff worked a little stiff but it broke in OK. I bet that cutoff from S&S will break in OK.

These Hotchkiss guns are too much fun. I can't believe how cheap you can pick up an 1800's Winchester 45/70-someone buy that one down there off Gunbroker before I do-regular trapdoor parts work for a forearm restoration. Scarce second model Navy rifle (So correct for a Marine gun too ;) ) here with an uncut barrel. New stocks are available too.

Finally figured out the front cap of the stock, includes the 2 part cleaning rod.

I had no idea about the cleaning rod /nose cap design on the carbine-that looks like quite a nice little treasure you have there!
