can any one tell me what is the best method for removing the loading lever retainer from a pietta 1860 army barrel? as always the help is greatly appreciated, mike.

If you mean the little latch out on the end of the barrel just take a brass punch and drift it out to the side.

murbas,

Do you mind if I ask why you want to remove the loading lever lug?

If you are going to leave the barrel full length, and mount an extractor system, I would suggest leaving the lug in place and file it down to match the barrel.
Otherwise you will have to make a filler piece to fit the dovetail.

actually, it would be easier for me to make the filler piece out of a soft metal, such as brass. if I grind down the retainer I know I will muck it up!
