An Unusual Find
« on: April 07, 2016, 05:44:33 PM »
Over 20 years ago my father in law found these in an old barn in Northern California These along with a bunch of loose bullets identical to these. I've tried doing some research on them and knew immediately that they were for the Model 1876 rifle in 45-75 chambering Other than that I haven't been able to turn up much other info about them. I've contacted the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody and I have the Winchester collectors book. Complete ammo is listed but not bullets. I've seen other period boxes of winchester bullets for more common chamberings but these are the first original 1876 bullets I've seen. I believe the box to date from the 1876-1880 period. Haven't had any luck in determining a collector value.
