Im pretty sure that there are posts about this already, but I cannot find it. I know the diameter was the same as the case. but I was wondering if someone can help me out here

I'm thinking the diameter was .446, but I don't have any reference for that, just something I've read in the past.

Found These measurements on the .44 Henry:
Cartridge OAL ca. 1.345
Case OAL .82 and .902
Case dia neck .434
Case dia head .441
Rim .518
Bullet .446

It's a "healed" bullet, similar in design to a .22 Short.  And, no, there's no Big Lube®LLC design bullet for it.  The big advantage to rimfire ammo with healed bullets is their ability to feed very well in lever 'repeater rifles, which the Henry was.  The big disadvantage to this ammo to SASS shooters is the inability to reliably reload rimfire ammo.

My digital has expired, so using my backup dial caliper, measuring a dozen or so Remingtons case width at .434, My one only Henry measures .445.

I was just looking for the diameter, so its closer between 44wcf and 45lc, I might go for a 45 henry

Ho nativeshooter,

You might consider the 45 Cal and shoot Cowboy 45 Special ammo.  This is a central fire cartridge that is similar to the 44 Rimfire and you can reload it.

If it's about a Henry you may want to consider getting a .44 cal. one - either .44-40 or .44 Special - and have it altered/converted to shoot .44 Russian or .44 Colt. I went the .44 Colt route and never regreted it.

I found a 44wcf henry for 850$ used, its older than me by two years. if I can buy that one i'll go with 44wcf, if i can't i'll save for a 45lc or keep saving and get a HRC henry....choices, i barely saved enough for a pietta colt. just gotta wait and see whats in store for little broke me.

I wish you luck my friend. I'm in the same boat, working on trying to grab my first lever rifle. I already load for .45 Colt/Schofield, so I SHOULD go for that, but I really want something in .44-40, make it easier to shoot BP.
