JB, it was the only BP that allowed me to get off 12 successive shots with no wiping using tapered PP bullets patched to bore in a Shiloh with good accuracy.

Just sharing a tip on comparison of fouling.

(1) Use same cleaning formula on all test patches
(2) Use same patches/material

- Weigh each patch before cleaning
- Wipe bore (don't lose crud that falls off)
- Save patches.
back at the shop,
- Allow all patches to air dry....sunlight or warming lightbulb to assist
- weigh each patch
- Subtract patch weight and you now have a numerical value for fouling.

Anyway, that's roughly how I've instructed our test centers to evaluate fouling.
In the case of metal parts that are fouled, I have them weigh before & after cleaning in a solvent tank.

I use similar techniques for evaluating primer material, percussion caps and combustible cartridges.

An accurate scale is handy for much more than weighing powder & bullets.

Slim - I've only done this once - as part of the verification procedures to determine that Austin rifle powder marked Curtis & Harvey was the same as cans of Meteor powder that I have ... Meteor is Curtis's & Harvey

I'll try to remember to bring some of my 45-70 ammo to the February shoot for you to try.  I'm shooting 55 grains of FFg Olde E with a big lube style 405 bullet.  I've used both Swiss and Olde E and can see no practical difference in it - except the price.  It takes no more than 3 or 4 patches to clean the bore after shooting the entire match with either powder, and accuracy is excellent
