kirst kartridge konverter

can anyone tell me how well the kirst fits the pietta 1860 army? my gun seems to have a correctly timed percussion cylinder, and I wanted to know if the conversion cylinder will fit the same or close? Also, how well does the conversion ring, with loading gate fit? as usual, thanks for the help, mike!    p.s. is the ejector assembly also a good fit?

The Kirst Kunversion is a good product in fit & function ...and in most case will benefit from some adjustment .

This one ( 61 Navy ) was installed by Gary Barnes .... I recommend him highly

The Kirst Konverter is a very well made product.  I've used quite a few to build custom guns for my customers when I was still in business.
Normally the fit is very Very close with little to no fitting required.  However ....... always be prepared for surprises.

could you elaborate a little? my current percussion cylinder seems to be timed correctly, so I am wondering what will happen  when i switch to the kirst in that regard?  thanks for the input, mike.

Have you ever done any gun work before?  No criticism just asking.  What I tell everybody when they ask about "drop-in" parts is that they drop-in until they don't.  All machines have variances.  Sometimes these variances stack in your favor.  Sometimes they don't.  In many cases drop-in parts drop-in 99% of the time and most people have no problems and it never even occurs to them that there can be a problem.  Then there is that 1%.  That is when the home gun tinker or gunsmith proves their mettle.  Figuring how what is wrong and how to fix it.  NO ONE can tell you what IF ANY problems you may or may not have.  As the old saying goes s**t happens.  You'll know it when and IF it happens.  Not trying to scare you or being impertinent.  Just saying things go right most of the time.  But there is a definite percentage of the time when things don't go right.

+1 on what the others have said.  I have bought two Kirst Konverters, both of which fit and opertated box-stock.  I had Hoofhearted ( http://cartridgeconversion.com/ ) slick them up anyway, and now they are even better.

I built my 1860 Pietta a few years ago:




Hoofhearted added the front sight, reblued the modified areas, and did the action work.

If your 6 shooter has perfect timing, making it a 5 shooter will throw that out the window.
You will need to work on it some.

Howdy Convertors,

I have to say Gary Barnes is a wizard with conversions. He fitted one to a 3rd model dragoon for me and it is super. I recommend him highly. By the way, he also saved an ASM Scofield for me that had stumped another good smith.

He is the Conversion King I'd say!
I've admired his work for a while. The Dragoons with Walker cyls. are very nice. Rifle type front sights that show up on some of his works. His Thuer conversion shows the craftsman that he is as well as the 1st gen he saved with the Pietta cyl.! That is a fine looking conversion!!
