Interesting.  I wonder if any of the rimfires were issued to the units fighting around Ft Phil Kearney.  Probably not spelled correctly.

I shoot a rolling block rifle built from 1863 musket parts and chambered in the .58 centerfire version of this cartridge. It's a hoot to shoot! Here it is next to a .22 short for comparison.
