Apparently this gentleman built a Walker from scratch.

Good lord that's a lot of work.  I remember a few years ago a retired gunsmith had started making all wood guns, used horn for springs and even matched the correct riffling.  He showed a walker he had carved, wish I could find the link to the video.

I think it came out really good but I'd like it better if it had the original Walker style ramrod and round top grips. I wonder if it can actually fire a 60 grain charge and how long it took to make.

Are these the wooden guns you speak of:

Really not to interesting without some photos or video of the build.

Now that is neat.  I like the way he formed the two-piece barrel.  Sure saved a lot of metal.

Those are the wooden guns I was talking about.  Not sure where the video is, but it showed him with a couple of them broken down.  He was using horn for springs and screws, no metal.

Interesting photo's, wander what steel he used?  If something like 4130 or so it'd be considerably stronger than the Uberti's mild steel.

"I like the way he formed the two-piece barrel.  Sure saved a lot of metal."

So I guess the originals the whole barrel assembly was machined from one big block of metal? I suppose on this one the barrel screws in?

That's what I was thinking.

Not sure how the originals were made, but I'd think they were a rough forging then machined.  Iron and steel were an expensive material back then, no sense turning more than they had to to chips.

I'd imagine he silver brazed or silver soldered his barrel in place.  Done rite, even JB weld would hold it from now on.  But I'd prefer a silver braze bond myself.  Done that way he probably started with a barrel already rifled.
