About crimps. .

Ho the Fire,

I have to load scatter gun hulls that are sometimes reloaded too much.  They are mostly worn out.  So, I try to get one more shot out of an old hull.  Mostly, it works pretty good, but now and then they can go Pffffft.

Lately I've been takin' to loading as usual but using a pie crimp with a roll crimp finish.  I label the box "Shoot 'em, toss 'em".  I don't want 'em back no more.  The roll crimp finish over the pie crimp with an overshot card under seems to get the pressure up to where the loads are respectable.  All these are loaded with Holy Black exclusively.

Whut I'd like to know is this. . .  With worn hulls, how do you get that last good shot out of 'em???

I decided that 'just one more shot" is false economy.  any major shoot will have piles of "shot once" hulls that will work for us.  If all else fails, cut a hull a little shorter and roll crimp it. The ones I have done that with are finished at that point.
I prefer to buy once fireds from a range scavenger.  I can get them all alike and 95% can be loaded 3 or 4 times before they show burns.

Cut the used crimp off and adjust load.

Bigger 'snicker'.....I don't worry about anyone stepping on my hulls!!

16ga hulls are a mite harder to come by.  I try to make them stretch more than my 12ga hulls.  Anyway, the reinforced closure seems to benefit my efforts to make consistent loads.  Patterns seem more even also.

Ho Coffinmaker,

Motor Mica seems to help the crimps.  Also the wad insertion.  So, if you have problems inserting your wads, give Mica a go. . . :-)
