If Guy Fawkes had succeeded?

Here is a link to that bbc project, to see what would have happened if Guy Fawkes had not been caught.  Records in the Tower of London show a receipt for 36 fifty pound casks of powder removed from the undercroft  (basement) beneath the parliament.  The King, dignitaries, Lords, and members of Parliament were sheduled to gather there within hours.  The lot would have been blown to heaven  (or hell, depending on whether you were catholic or protestant!)

36 barrels of black powder is ALOT of explosives... thats 1800 pounds which is enough to do ALOT of damage.
(provided it acts like an explosive all at once and not a propellant)

Sir Charles deMouton-Black

The "King" was a crash test dummy, somewhat like the original.  "His" head was found several hundred yards away.  The entire replica building was cleaned right out.

In short, it BLEW!  Guy Fawkes was a military engineer for the catholic armies, and knew his business.

I believe Patton said that there was no problem that couldn't be solved by a suitable application of (high) explosives.

It is amazing what they were willing to risk for their ideas, knowing the wretched fate that would await traitors if caught.

The shows producers asked themselves the same question.  If the plot had succeeded, their prediction would be a widespread "Pogrom" against Catholics.  As it was, it took 300 more years before Catholics had most of the restrictions against themselves removed.

The religious wars of Europe had an important effect on politics in America.  Having an "established" religion means that the other religions and sects are excluded.  The framers of your constitution wisely decided that religion & politics had to be separate.

Now that Guy Fawkes day 2008 is less than 3 weeks away, and the US presidential election only days later, the question of religion and running a country are still up for debate!

So, where is the most promising location to begin tunneling under Obama?  I'll be happy to dig some, lift a little and provide some black powder.

It would be interesting to see just how far a 67 year old lumberjack could dig with a rusty spade.  Of course, it's the will that matters.  I will remain free.

BTT;  For those who havn't seen what 1800 pounds of gunpowder could have done to the House of Parliament.

And, here is the link to my related thread;

Back around again.  Guy Fawkes Day 2013.

This issue is still alive, but with different names/characters/religion etc.  In the current news I see that Dearborn MI is reportedly accepting Sharia law, and the Congress is being challenged for hold prayers at the opening ceremony.

I say that separation of church and state means that while there should not be an established state religion, acknowledgment of God and giving thanks does not offend that principal.  Using a religion based legal system offends it to the core.

Sorry for the rant, but it is less serious than a ton of gunpowder going off.
