I am looking to try Olde Eynsford powder in cartridges such as 44-40 and Spencer 56-50 and was curious what forum
Members use in terms of the granulation.

I tend towards 3F for everything up to .44 special, 2F from .44 special on up, and then 1.5 F for big cartridges like .45-70. I've only used Olde Eynesford. From my experience, I'd say 2F should do fine with both of those cartridges.

I use 3FG in .45 Colt. 40 grains by Lee dipper (2.5cc) and black powder measure loaded under a 250 grain Big Lube.

At the time it was available in the 5 lb lot at Powder Inc... Wanting to try some 2 FG next time.

2f is what you want for those two cartridges. The 3f is some awfully fast stuff, and the 1.5 would be a bit slow.

2f would work fine in both those cartridges.

I've used 2f and 3f Old E in 44wcf. Most of the time I use 2f. The 3f is a bit faster, without looking I cant remember how much faster.

There you go overthinking black powder again.

Either FFg or FFFg will work quite well. I used FFg in everything from 32-20 to 12 ga until I ran out. Now everything is eating FFFg and loving it.

Thing is tho, he specifically asked about Olde Eysnford. 3f OE is a bit hot to use IMHO. 35 grs of it in a 35 colt case will spit a 230 gr bullet out of a 7.5 in barrel at a bit over 1000 fps.
32 grs of 2f in a 38wcf with 180 gr bullet does a tad over 925 fps from a 4 1/2 in barrel...
Going to run a little bit of the 3f in a 32wcf, but I'm thinking that might be some serious velocity..

I use 3f OE in everything from 8mm French revolver to 12 ga.  Great stuff!

I'd go with 2F. I use it in all my cartridge guns....and, dragoon-size C&B. But I would not hesitate to use 3F for all of these applications if that was most abundant in my cabinet.

Sittin' on my bench is a batch of Old Einsford 1.5Fg happy black powder.  I'll be loading some up for my 45-70 Roller.  I will report back, but I expect performance parallel to my Swiss 1.5Fg loads.  We shall see.

OE will be hotter than Swiss. You may have to adjust your load. wM1

69 grs. of 1.5 OE with a 518 gr money bullet won the Position championship in Sharpshooter class at the BPTR championships this fall.
Chip Mate won the Arizona State sillouette match shooting OE this past month.
Freedom 475 won the Quigley shooting OE this year.
FWIW I've found reminton 9 1/2 primers to be the best primers with OE.

Someone mentiond velocity, I forget exactly the question. Here is some Chrono data I ran in .45 Colt in the 3 barrel lengths.

The charge is 40 grns of 3FG Old Eynsford Black Powder under a 250 grain Big Lube. I used the 2.5cc Lee dipper.

The guns used are a Pietta (Heritage Big Bore) 4 3/4in, Cimarron Old Model P  5 1/2in, and a Uberti Old Model P 7 1/2in.

The load is 40 grns of FFFG (3F) Olde Eynsford under a 250grn PRS Big Lube bullet. All loads fired 10 feet from chrono.
