Was recently prowling around and followed a hyper-link to a site previously unknown to me for practitioners of the Soot and Percussion pistols in particular.
Newby posted had just been gifted a new Uberti Walker.  Had ZERO experience with percussion stuff and sorta "what do I do next" questions right down to removing the oily stuff the factory puts inna shipping bag.

First answer out of the box explains how/what to load right down to "pinching" CCI # 11 caps to fit the nipples.

STUPID!!

OOPS - - - PS:  Just went and found my way back to the question/answer pages this guy was on.  It was "The High Road."  I hope all those guys aren't that STUPID!!

Correct Coffin Maker that will work only if you want to experience all six at once. I have never had that happen but I would bet it would be something to remember.
that kind of advise is what can give shooting the old ones a bad name and you are correct but I am not sure stupid quite covers it.

Pinching caps?..well...it can be done successfully (as in the hoped-for result). Most would "pinch" from the outside...I've pinched from the inside with good results..unlike the way most think about pinching a cap.

Think about it...requires true out of the box thinking.
Maybe I post answer to riddle one day.

That's what we did in the old days before modern aftermarket nipples. I never had a chain fire then.

Gabriel Law

Same here.  But had lots of copper down the action via the hammer well.  No chain fires though.  Have new nipples coming for my new Walker.

I watched in total disbelief many years ago, a Reenactor use his eye teeth   :o  to pinch caps for a  better cling to his revolver nipples.
Every time, ever cap pinched with his teeth !

I was amazed then as now...  when, how and whom,  does and whom doesn't
"shoot their mouth off"

There was someone whom once said "I'd rather be lucky than great."  In some endeavors, Lady Luck just may save us from ourselves.
It seems as if we do things as an expedient that actually work.  Maybe not the best (shop for caps??), nor the safest (shop for caps??)
but none the less, get it done.
I have to admit, I wasn't around playing with Cap Guns in the "good old - bad old" days before we had access to really good after-market nipples.  However, I personally would have found a way to alter my existing nipples to give a better cap fit, before I resorted to squeezing an impact sensitive explosive device between my delicate, pain sensitive and highly valued (by me) fingers.  Let alone some loon putting the squeeze on with his TEETH.
Physics 101 - - an explosion will follow the path of least resistance.  The convoluted route, around the lower skirt of the cap, up the side of the nipple, a u-turn into the flame channel then down into the powder seems somewhat ......... unlikely.  There are easier routes for the
blow-back and cap flash from an adjacent chamber to escape.  I am, however, conversant with ....... Murphy.  Never completely discount
anything Murphy can effect.  A chain fire from pinched caps ????  Meh ....... Murphy ......... Ump
However, these are MY fingers.  We do have a Stirling example on our very forms (pictures included) of why one should NOT seat caps with one's thumbs.  So ..... Why would I pinch one with MY fingers!!!!  Silly me.

A for mentioned Wag ...was a loading and yapping while  loading & pinching ... coughed and swallowed one of said caps...

Probably a nipple joke in there somewhere too...

I wonder what stomach acid would do to the priming compound?

Och!  Talk about a burning rear end!

I've pinched plenty of caps over the years, but not since good quality nipples became available.  I've only had one chain fire, and long story short, there was a hole drilled and tapped in the frame at the 6 O-clock position.  Flame from the first shot followed the hammer around and set off the bottom one.  Filled the hole and have never had another.  No damage to the gun either.

Now days there's no need to pinch caps or make do.  But it wasn't that long ago it was hard to near impossible to find good quality nipples and caps that fit rite.

Too tough on fingers, teeth or jaw to pinch those caps (if one were so inclined)..always use pliers.
