Some people would go on to just antique this gun or spend real money getting it refinished with more sunk into it than the gun is worth.  Here is an option that while does not restore the case coloring, makes the gun look great and can be done by the average hobbyist, try rust bluing the entire gun and optionally, nitre blue the screws, trigger and base pin.  The hammer was in great shape otherwise it would have been nitre blued and the sides would have been polished in the white.  The total cost to do this was about $37.00 in materials including the stump buster (potassium nitrate) from Home Depot.
The gun as it was found in an unheated no A/C garage and was covered in rust.
