Bubba put a lot of thought into this one, but its all there, be a good shooter/restoration project.

The seller says it's got a 22" barrel, so it might be a good one to make a carbine out of.

I'm no expert on these but the rear sight appears to be a carbine site, turned around backwards.  I was wondering if this may have started life as a carbine and someone added a rifle stock modified into a Mannlicher style.

That was sort of what I was thinking.  Could be a good find.

Well, its an 1896 action, carefully inletted into an 1898 rifle stock.  The sight is an 1896 sight, correctly mounted, cannot tell if it is a carbine sight though.  The front sight looks added on, though very well done, the base should be slightly set into the barrel, without the dab of solder visible on the side.  Though that might be an armoury repair of an original carbine.

An excellent starting point to any of the carbine models, cavalry, engineer, or even a school/constabulary carbine, with all that forend to play with.

I fear though, that bidding is going to get stupid on this one.

Ah, the seller posted some new pictures, definitely a rifle sight.

Still a good place to start, though.  But I, like you, fear this one is going to get stupid.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it's pretty as it is.

Wouldn't change a thing on it . . .

I got an e-mail flier from S&S yesterday and they're offering repro stocks and hand guards as well as original had guards for Krags.

Yes, that one got REALLY stupid for a cut down Krag, no matter how pretty they tried to make it.

Yeah. me too.  I like it... a lot.

Me three, I was interested in that as a sporting piece, beautiful gun to my eyes.

It was indeed well done, not sure I'd change anything on it myself.  But not at that price!
