Was just thru the new Cabela's in Cincinnati, for anyone interested they have a Krag in carbine configuration, reblued, looks like new wood or very well refinished, no handguard, for $699. Had to think real hard on it my own self, but have a couple of other irons in the fire at the moment. Good luck.

Oh...don't tempt me. It'd be a 30 minute drive for me. My fiancé would kill me, and I'd have to add a new caliber to my (very basic) reloading setup, but I am a fan of Krags. Very cool firearms.

Jake, maybe you should buy it anyway, a fiancée doesn't have the license to kill you yet..... ;D

Sadly, I'm too close to the big day to spend the money on a rifle. Besides, I'm planning on going to a gunstore in Denver on the honeymoon that sells antique firearms from the Old West. So maybe I'll get lucky and get the go ahead to grab something from there.

Besides, there's a Krag that's been sporterized at my favorite local store that I'm going to see if I can get cheap and then have restored to military configuration.

Jake, I feel for ya'. I'm just up the road outside Dayton (too close for my own good), and I've had a wife for most of 35 years or so. According to her I don't need another Krag, even if I don't already have a carbine. Course I didn't need the last half dozen or so Colts either by her reckoning. ;D I'm just hoping someone who can make good use of it can get it before I succumb to the pull.

Pitspitr

Need is a relative term.

If you were to go to the gun store maybe it'd just follow you home and find it's way into the gun safe. Of course it wouldn't be your fault.

I have just never been able to figure out how some things manage to find their way into a locked gun safe.  :o

Here's a possible scenario:
New gun follows you home, you convince it to wait in the car.

Go inside, get a couple more out of the safe.

Take them out to your reloading shed, or out back and do some shooting.

After cleaning/fondling/etc, return all the guns(including the new one) to the gun safe.

Note: this scenario is fiction, any resemblance to actual events at my house is totally coincidental.

Another note: This plan fails when the gun shop calls your home phone to tell you to come pick up your new????? Moral of the story, never give your FFL your HOME phone, always your cell
