Would all you guys with Burnside Carbines that were refinished by Springfield let me know what finish your barrel has?
Springfield refinished guns have the address half buffed off, usually the bottom half, and the stabler cutoff installed.

Mine seemed to be blue, but when I took off the forearm, it was armory bright.  like a mirror, so I'm doing the whole barrel like that.
    Thanks for the info....Ken

Ken S,

My suggestion would be to go with the finished area protected by the fore stock.

The original manufactures, and the Springfield re-finished arms did not use a two tone color scheme on their primary metal surfaces.
It is however, ok to leave small parts like screws and the Stapler cutoff's blued. (This idea of protecting small parts, that maybe in storage for some time, goes back to the 1850's)
My best,

exactly what I did Blaire.  someone said they could have just blued the top over the fore end.  No way they would take the time to do that.  so...I cleaned the barrel to match the mirror part under the fore end..shows minor wear without rust, and fits the rest of the gun...
In all the books, they just don't mention the barrel finishes at all..

    thanks..Ken
