The 2015 National Pony Express Association re-ride is history.  The Brockliss Bridge is the only break in the 2,000 mile Historic National Pony Express trail due to the fact that the bridge collapsed into the American River in the late 1860's. The later Blair Brothers bridge was blown up in the 1980's when it was deemed unsafe. The mochila is sent across the canyon on a zip line.  JW

I found a period drawing of the Brockliss Bridge that the Pony Express used in 1860-61. The Express was charged 1 cent per month toll to cross. The bridge was heavily used from 1855 until it collapsed in1869, at times wagons were backed up for miles waiting to cross the narrow bridge. We delivered the mail to the north side of the American River, which would be the far side in the drawing.  JW
