Cylinder Flutes - Correct me if I'm wrong...

Greetings All,
There are several telltale signs that separate the import part guns from the all US made.  One is the shape of the cylinder flutes.  Italian cylinders have a more pointed end to the flute while the US made flute ends are more rounded.
From looking at various photographs it also appears to me that the Italian flutes are also a bit longer than the US.  Using the cylinder bolt notches as a reference point, it appears to me that, were you to draw a line around the cylinder using the front edge of the bolt notch as a guide, the Italian flutes would extend beyond that line (hope that this makes sense to you).  Ends of the US made cylinder flutes appear to end about the same place that the bolt notch starts.  Fortunately for me, but unfortunate for proving this theory, all of my current USFA's are US made and I no longer have any import parts guns to compare them to.
As stated, I base this solely on what I have seen in photographs.  Hopefully those among us who have both Italian and US made USFA's can definitively confirm or denounce this observation.

Capt. John,

I have noticed the shape of the flutes and that is the way I usually distinguish the USA from the import cylinder. It does appear in some photos the flutes of the import cylinder looks slightly longer but may be an optical illusion because of the more pointed end. Like you all mine are USA and I don't have the imported cylinder to make a hands on assessment.

Surely someone among us has an import parts gun and an all US made and can do a side by side comparison.

You all have me thinking.  I am going to check my Colt and USFA guns against Uberti/Cimarron when I get home.

OK I laid out four revolvers, Colt (Stag Grips) USFA/Turnbull(Ivory) Navy Arms (Cavalry Model), Cimarron (Artillery Model).

I can see a little difference, in the flutes.  It looks like the USFA/Turnbull has the roundest tops on it.
