Major 2

Yep!  That shows been pretty much a modern mecca for black opp's wannabe's for years...
I haven't attended it in a mighty long time...spec't I won't , but  If  I had known you were there,  I'da gone  to say Hi
when planets align...do the deal !

Slowhand Bob

I hate to admit it BUT we are a dying breed in most areas now.  It has been decades since I have had any type of BP shooter randomly show up at the range while I was there popping off  few.  I still remember the first gun show that I ever attended, it was like magic with its large assortment of guns and gear with a great amount of variety.  By the third year it was mostly junk and gimmicks.  I tired of counting the used, worn out knives and straight razors.  I'll bet the line of 'black ops' books from just one dealer was almost 100' foot long.

Coffinmaker, were those just out the fer conversation pieces?  I'll bet if the Dawg had been there the guy woulda got a offer for those stainless guns thet he couldnt refuse!

Coffinmaker

Hi Bob,
Actually, may have just been "come-ons" as the twit wouldn't pay attention to me.  Bait and switch maybe.  Not happy was I.

Maj 2,
Didn't know I was gonna be there till Friday when I saw the big bill board.  You are correct.  Except for the food, a waist of the entry fee.  Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Sorry, Coffinmaker. Wish I knew you were looking for one. I just sold a NIB (black box, so it was a 2nd gen) Colt 1860 Army in SS. Didn't think I was going to ever find a mate to that one so I let it go. Plus, it just didn't look right to me in that stainless.

Part of the reason is the current trend of needing to be tactical in all firearms circles. I wouldn't say a dying breed just yet but with society headed in the direction of teaching kids that all firearms are evil, we might see it in the next generation. I know many shooters under the age of 30 that are into historical firearms and shooting.

IMHO its a sign of the times.

The wife and I love to hit the antique stores any time we're in a new location. What we find is
not "antique" but what folks are calling "collectibles". Nearly all of the furniture is modern repro-s
and any of the other categories like watches, toys, dishes and clothing are all being eclipsed by
chintzy modern stuff (IE. What is the watch display doing with a range of INVICTA watches?)
I've had to be particularly careful when out on EBAY and even AMAZON is starting to have its problems.

Fact is, Folks, we're touching on one of the prime reasons I haunt forums like this. If I wanted wannabee,
Holly-weird dress-up I can always find that. But to be around people who want to preserve and respect
an aspect of our heritage....well.....thats getting tough to find. The icing on the cake is that so many of
you folks have great information to share, and I would hate to see that get lost. I know newbies like me
must strain your patience sometimes, but please accept a quick note of appreciation in light of what the
TS is speaking about.  Just sayin.....

Best Wishes,

I feel ya!  About the only time i'm not the only black powder shooter is when i get together with guys from forums.  At the local range, me and one or two other guys are about it.  On the positive side, the custodial supervisor where i work came up and told me her husband was interested in getting a bp revolver, and wanted to know what kind he should get.  I have arranged to take him to the range and bring along a full battery of different pistols (he wants a .44 cal).  this way he can decide if he likes Remmy or Colt better, lol!  And what length of barrel he is looking for.  Both him and his wife are longtime Harley riders, honestly most folks i know that seriously ride Harleys like the old time guns and things of that nature. Can't wait to introduce a newbie into the sweet pleasure of the Holy black.  and to make it even sweeter, I just got 5 lbs of 3ffg Swiss.  Man, is that some nice powder!

There are a lot of reasons why the current level of interest in blackpowder guns is at present position. However, when was the last time you remember reading AYTHING related to blackpowder guns in any of the usual gun magazines? At one time I subscribed to just about all of the popular gun magazines as I am an avid reader. This gave me a good basis for comparison of what what was being dispenced. In the last few years it began to dawn on me that  fewer & fewer articles held any any interest as they were about the "tactical" plastic guns. Heck, there are few articles about revolvers in general any more. So I let almost all my subscriptions lapse, except for GOTOW, BLACKPOWDER CARTRIDGE NEWS and GUNS.
So if you are new to the shooting sports and are looking for information/help and you pick up a copy of the latest gun mag (or view it on line), what are you going to find? Your impression is that "tactical" is all there is. It's a wonder there is any interest at all in our field.  There is enough interest in blackpowder shooting, I believe, when people are exposed to it. I base this opinion on several decades of interaction with individuals involved in the shooting sports. When this aspect (blackpowder in general) is presented, I have found a consistent percentage of people inquire further. So my pet peave is  against the national gun magazines as they appear to present a very one-sided view of the shooting sports.
