So I finally got the sun to cooperate with me long enough to get these things finished! They're 3 oz vegtable tanned cowhide and finished with EVOO and sunlight. I was able to make a pattern by studying pictures of 1870-1880s shotgun chaps, Trial and error and a huge thanks to ChuckBurrows and Andy Rombach for the helpful info!

Thanks guys! I've had them sitting outside whenever the sun would come out for about a week and a half in total.

Very nicely done Tex!

FWIW - having worn chaps in a working environment I would like to offer a suggestion to those folks who may wear their chaps in such an environment - the suggestion is regard to the placement of the pockets.
While many originals have the pockets set high on the keg towards the belt line, the problem for me is such a pocket placement makes it difficult at best to actually use the pockets.
While due to health issues I no longer make chaps, I have most recently and would continue to place the pocket lower over the thigh when sitting as if in a saddle unless I were making a bench made/exact repro of an original pair.

Thank you guys! Your kind words mean a ton! After wearing these around and sitting on horseback with them I decided I will definitly be making another pair this summer and put the pockets lower as well as make them a bit longer, this pair seems to ride up a bit around the ankle while in the saddle. This project has been quite the learning experience for me and I'm looking forward to continuing this great hobby.
