They look real nice on California Slim Jims, add a touch of class for that early Old West impression. I have a rig from 45 Maker, though not with the toe caps--very happy with the quality and would deal with them again.

I bought  first model Dragoon from a customer many years ago with a flap holster that had a nickel toe cap that he had made and carved himself and engraved the cap.  I had a matching belt and ammo pouch.  The gun (don't recall the maker now, maybe some Spanish company?) was a certified POS and I sold it.

I wish that I had kept the holster and belt rig, though.  It would have been worth buying another Dragoon just for the interest factor.

I've never made a holster with one but that's not to say I never will. Perhaps one of these days.

Major 2 where have you found your toe caps?

Major 2

Either made them , or used antique napkin rings  ( on larger holsters )

Napkin rings!

That's what I call ingenious.  I'll have to go shopping the local antique stores..

Major, thanks. I have used napkin rings also. I also use brass tubing/rail end caps http://www.brassrails.com/end-caps.html

I have  used #377 in the past and currently have ordered 376 for a holster I am working on.

Looking at the fancy one on your holster thought you might have found someplace to order  them from. Always looking for new sources.

Major 2

Oh ! you're referring to that very holster ...

that was a bit different because of the smaller size

A yard sale find for a $1.00 yielded a similar solid brass deco item's which donated it's cap...

chucked on drill press , to turn down the rim , & polish off the solder,  then pared off the point.

I wasn't actually looking for it,  but when I saw it , I saw it's donor-ability

I'm not a fan.

To 'me' they belong on pre-Civil War percussion revolvers, and few of those, but I do understand why some guys might like them.

Here's a suggestion that might yield something even more decorative - Candle Holders and Candle Wick Dampeners.

Both are seen in brass and nickel and both are often filigreed and cut with decorative openings, because of their ceremonial use.

Worth thinking about...

issue with those is the size  about 3/4 " tops ....

I guess the only ones I've ever seen were in a religious goods supply store.

They're a lot bigger.

Well, being what they are, and who their customer base is - you can expect them to have their hand out to be filled...

The reason I was there was because I found out by accident that the one I went to could disassemble and re-plate a M1902 dress saber scabbard, and had done so for the local College ROTC.

I'd picked one up with a short blade (they were sold with different blade lengths to accommodate different heights), and I had found a Lilliputian-sized JAG Officer with an over-developed ego who wanted one, so I needed to have it polished and the scabbard re-plated.

I must say - they plated it...

Didn't do it 'right' - but they plated it...

Took a long time to get it to stop rusting the blade tip, but I finally flooded the innards with paraffin wax and masked any chance of it 'ever' rusting anything ever again.

That was a fun week.
