I used 1:1:1 mix of Bees Wax, Parafin and Mutton Tallow with about 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil as my Lube.  Then punched the wads out of wool felt about 52 per linear inch of 12 inch felt.  Soak the wads let them dry / congeal on wax paper.  I have also made lube cookies by pouring the melted mixure over hotwater in a cake pan and let cool then punch out with a piece of what ever fired brass, having first drilled the primer pocket out  so I can use a nail to push out the cutout lube cookie.  They don't melt in my garage in the Phoenix Area in the summer.  I find saddle soap or shoe polish tins are a not bad way to carry either the cookies or surrogate wonder wads.

;D  In my opinion the wad should go tween powder and ball, if put on top and one slid forward it would act like a barrel obstruction.

I think that was the point the fella was trying to make.  Thanks.

I'm a huge fan of KISS and it sounds like you have that pegged!

Thanks for the suggestion. One more combination to try.    ;)

I punch the wads first then soak them in hot lube.  Much less mess.

You can say what you want about the whys and wherefores of "chain fires" but I have had enough that I'll take any protection I can get.
