Many thanks, Blair and Rifle:

My thought was along the lines of what you both shared but I wanted to ask to be sure.
I met a fella who reported to me that he still shoots an original cap-and-ball from the Civil War
but I'm afraid I don't have that sort of trust level in the original metalurgy.

I WILL say that the idea of shooting one of those replicas you mentioned has me curious though....  ::)

Bruce,

I have several S&W #3 revolvers that I occasionally shoot in cowboy completion.
The real heart breaker comes when something like the mainspring brakes. These can be nearly imposable to find anymore and can cost a small fortune if you can locate the correct one.

A friend of mine was shooting an original M-1841 "Mississippi" Rifle when the mainspring broke on it. He could not find an original spring, but did find a very high quality reproduction at $100.00 for just the spring. Still, that was cheap compared to the price for an original spring at $250.00, if one could have been found.
Sometimes, it's best just not to take the chance of something going wrong.
My best,
Blair

Thanks, Blair:

I stumbled across  some original Walker Colts being sold for a couple hundred K a piece. At that cost, I think I would keep it in the house and not push my luck....

Thanks again
Best Wishes,

Bruce
