Are the threads on a Enfield Mark 4  barrel the same as a Mark III?   I found a like new barrel with part of the receiver attached in the misc gun parts in my shop.   I also have a BUBBAED Mk III that could use a new barrel.

It's not going to fit back into the stock correctly. The No4 MK I barrel has a thicker profile than the No3 MKIII. Plus, the No4 has a different sight configuration and bayonet mount. I recently read somewhere that new made barrels are in production.

If you decide to part with the barrel, I have a No4 with some sentimental value that has a ruined bore.

I found in with the Gunshow stuff,  Shiny Bore with front site and the forward part of the cutoff receiver.....I'll check it in better light for any markings.   My bubbad Mk 1's basicly need new forend stocks (both of them) and other pieces to be Milspec again.

I thought you were going to ask why you couldn't unscrew the barrel of an Enfield.  Years ago, in one of the original gun magazines, someone wrote in to the gunsmith's column (by Roy Dunlap IIRC). The writer said he had tried everything to get the barrel off an Enfield (M1917??), but couldn't budge it. Dunlap replied, "Breathes there a man with soul so dead, who never to himself has said...'Dammit, that's a left-hand thread!'?"  :P ::) ;D
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!
