Winchester 1876 parts
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:06:59 AM »
I just purchased my first Winchester 1876 and I have not had much luck finding parts. I see in the forum many Uberti and Chapperal parts may fit. I need a carrier block, extractor, and a dust cover, will the reproductions work?  Does anyone know if any parts from the Winchester 1873 will work like the dust cover or wood? Thank you much.

You didn't mention this, but from the parts you need, I'm taking it for granted that your '76 is an original.  Very few parts will interchange from a '73 to the '76.  Wood and dust cover will not interchange.  These parts, as well as the extractor and of course the carrier block are all specific to each model.  Most screws will interchange from original 1873's to 1876's, most trigger parts are also the same and will interchange.  I no nothing about either of the reproduction guns and whether or not those parts fit original models.  I have heard stories from both sides of the isle.  I do have a friend who bought some internals from Chapperal to fix his original 1876 and nothing would fit without major alteration.

Hi, Walter.

The Uberti 76 stock will fit the original Win 1876.  I have not tried any of the other parts, so can't say on those.  E-bay is a good place to find original 76 parts on occasion.

Parts for the Chapparal must now be ordered from Italy, and as Buck has noted, may not always work.

Good luck.

Thank you for the input. I was told the carrier block from the Chapparal will work in the Winchester. I guess having the rare 1876 means looking for rare parts. Perhaps we need to start a list of part suppliers.

Yes, Chapparal claims their parts will fit the original, but as Buck notes, your mileage may vary!  :)

Here is a link to them in Italy:  http://www.chaparralarms.com/  (Folks do report good luck with them.)

Here are links to some folks who sometimes have reproduction parts for old Winnies. ;)

VTI Gunparts has parts for any and all things Italian:  http://www.vtigunparts.com/

Take care, Amigo. :)

Walte, the only thing that is rare is how much you are willing to spend for 'rare' parts
Call Charter Arms and when Dee answers the phone, talk to her about your needs

sorry for bringing up an old post but would the hammers be the same between a 73 and 76 as well as the finger lever and but plate?

Levers, hammers and butt plates will not interchange between the '73 and '76.
