Barnes and Noble have just brought out a hardcover reissue of Theodore Roosevelts "Rough Riders".  It is lavishly illustrated with period pictures, period and modern illustrations,  excellent sidebars, Maps et al.  A must have for a student of the period.  And usualy found in the Sale rack for around $10.

I have a soft cover edition of a previous printing and will now have to get the new one to go with it.  By the way another good book to get it "The Little War of Private Post"  He fought with the 71st NY in Cuba.

p.s. I like your signature line.   ;D

If you just want to read the text, it is available at Guttenberg project for free. That is how I read it this winter.

I think the edition that you are talking about, is edited by Richard Bak.
T.R's text is the basis, but there are side-bars, photos and other journals also included.  The additional material, in my opinion, make this edition a must own for any Spanish-American war researcher/enthusiast.

Wife scored two of them today in Grand Junction $9.98 each.  Leaving one here with son's GF as she is a real TR buff.  Taking the other one home with me to AZ.

Sounds like he chose well, maybe they can BOTH join up and come to a Muster?

Your mouth to God's ear.  That would be really fun.  Heck of a lot closer for them.  Might be something to work on.  Vacation is really limited for them.  Expect if I drove and set up, they might be able to fly in if Dad bought the tickets.

Picked up a copy Friday.  Got some uniform ideas from the photos and illustrations.
Can the Mills belt for the 45-70 be used for the 30-40 Krag?  Leather I can do, but not the Mills belt.

Drydock

Yes it can, and often was.  However, you can get the even more correct 100 round double row mills belt from http://www.cooncreekoldwest.com/coon_html/Double_Loop_C.html  if you're interested.  You'd want the blue one.

I just received my blue one this last week and it is very good.  They must of had known who it was for as I did not have to adjust it to fit my waist.   ;D
