I have purchased a 1898 Krag.  I believe it is one from either Bannerman or the DCM.  It has,  as far as I can tell, had the barrel cut down to 22" to look like a carbine and I also believe it has a carbine stock.  However, it has had the rear sight removed and a civilian rear sight installed by the cutoff tab.  My question is:  does anyone know where I can find an original rear sight?

Civilize them with a Krag . . .

If that doesn't work, check e-Bay and Gunbroker.  Be prepared to pay for them, though.  A lot of people seem to have developed a sudden interest in the old military stuff.

I found a nice sight and screws on e-bay.  However it did cost me a bit  ::) .  Now all I have to do is wait for them to get to me and then install them.  I am fortunate as the screw holes are still there with the threads.  I did have a chance to clean the Krag and the rifling looks great!  I think I got a good one.  Now to get some ammo and to the range.

I was able to get the original type sight mounted and it looks very nice.   I happened to wander in to the same gun shop and they happened to have a nice 1898 Krag rifle that had not been modified.  To make matters short, my wallet is now a lot lighter and I have a 1898 Krag rifle with the original stock, and cartouches.  It came with the cleaning rod and oiler in the butt stock and the bore is quite nice.   ;D

You'll never regret a Krag!  It's always been my favorite bolt action military rifle!  (I will have to say I'm developing a real fondness for the Lee bolt actions of late!)
