I'm needing to find a couple of spring kits for Uberti '62 Navy open-tops.  I would have thought that the spring kits for regular SAA' s would have worked but the tech guys at Brownell's said no.

Please help.

Every time a question on the "62" comes up the first thing we have to do is make sure what you are talking about.  There is no such thing as a 62 Navy.  There is a 61 round barrel Navy, but no 62 Navy.  The 61 is built on the 51 Navy frame and has a six shot cylinder.   The 62 Pocket Police is built on the 49 frame and has a five shot cylinder.  What makes matters more confusing is that Pietta makes a "62" but it is actually a 61 full size revolver.  Also, are you talking about a cap and ball revolver?

Bottom line bad news is there are no aftermarket lightened spring kits for the little Uberti 62s.  Not really a problem because if you have the cap and ball revolver you really can't put a lighter spring in and get reliable ignition.  (Believe me, I've tried.)  If you are making it into a cartridge conversion, you can grind and polish your stock springs.

Except the Pocket Navy.
That's not a 62.  Let's not confuse things even more than they are.  However, same action so same answer.  No after market spring sets.

My bad, it's been a REALLY long week.  It's a Uberti '72 open top.

Please forgive the slip and thanks for replying.

Same springs as a Uberti SAA.  Lots of spring choices.

Pettifogger is right... there is still VTI with both lightened & OEM springs , Lee Gun Fighter & Wolf springs a to name some...

If it's an army griped 72, an SAA main won't fit ( to short )

Both of mine have the Navy grip, will the SAA kit fit?

Thanks,

Rob

should .... may be a very minor adjustment

I broke a trigger bolt spring in my 2nd Gen. 1860 , the Gun shop only had some OEM Colt SAA springs in house , it dropped in though I had to trim about 1/64Th. off the longer leg.

It broke again about 9 years later.... and has Wolf SAA Spring in it now...

Yes, the SAA spring kits work for the 1871-1872 Open Top model.

The Pocket Navy is an 1862. Let's not confuse things even more with even more erroneous information.

Wiki: (yeah I know) Between 1862 and 1873, Colt records document production of 19,000 of the Pocket Navies and over 20,000 Pocket Police revolvers.

Yep, left out a word, should have said "not a 62 Police."  The point was not to introduce a different model and confuse things more.  Turns out to be a moot point as he wasn't even talking about a 62 or a cap and ball revolver, which was my entire point.  To clarify what he was talking about.

Heck when I started collecting and shooting C&Bs fifty years ago they called it the 1853 Pocket Navy.  Of course, back then the Brontosaurus was still a dinosaur and Pluto was still a planet.

Actually, the main spring for the Army and Navy grip are the same, at least on the Ubertis.  It just screws to the Army frontstrap a little higher up than the Navy.

From VTI's page...

By golly, Abilene ...you are right ....  It never occurred to me...makes since though.... Doh !
