Great link!!  ;)

Back in the infancy of the Internet, one of the gun auction sites had a Pietta '51 Navy that was a copy of the Russian Model in that it had Cyrillic markings. The person wanted what I thought was too much at the time. Looking back I should have bought it.  :'(   It was the only one I've ever seen. Anyone know more of this early repro?  ???

Thanks Kid...kinda took a page from your book (posting cool links )  :)

I seem to remember, not Russian replica but a Polish replica...wasn't Pietta, made in Poland, mid 80's I think,  I do remember seeing it , but only in a photo ad. It's going drive me nuts trying to remember the importer ???
It may have been EAA over in Cocoa  :-\

Maybe not the one you speak of...  :-\

Neat!  Would be fun to have a pair of Unertis stamped that way wouldn't it?

The thing that interests me most is the fact the Russian gun makers monkeyed extensively with the Colt grip shape.  A lot of people say the Colt '51 grip was one of the best handling and best balanced designs in the history of handguns, and I think it's real interesting to see all this Russian experimentation.  Even to the extent that 2 of the Russian '51's have grip shapes that foreshadow the Elmer Keith type grip (that led to the Ruger Bisley grip shape), one '51 that for all the world looks like it has an exaggerated "Pietta tail," and one that has the vertical/straight grip shape of the Ruger Bisley and a Pietta tail.  I'm certainly not suggesting there are Russian historical roots to the Ruger Bisley (beyond Keith) or the Pietta grip shape, I just think it's very interesting to see all this independent invention on a grip shape most of us wouldn't dream of changing.

I'd think on the surface, the Russian's would have more exposure it the 51 Navy , because of it use in the Crimean War with British Allies.
And copied them

as an aside , The Japanese also bought a number of 51 Navy's
