One of my wife's SR1911's all but locked up during a practice session.

Stripping it, there was a high spot on a frame rail that was the problem. looked like it caused the galling.  I greased it and worked the slide a few hundred times to smooth it out.
I also installed a 'tuned' extractor as the factory part was occasionally failing to snap over the rim of GI brass.

s there a lube recommended for SS firearms?

The SR1911, does that have the external coil spring extractor? If it uses the original design it should never "snap" over the rim otherwise it will.......snap. :o

The Ruger SR1911 is a Series 70-type 1911.

The factory extractor was very stout and straight as an arrow. The 'tuned' extractor in installed has a slight bend in the upper half.
Haven't fired it for function yet.

Hey, look into "solid film lubricant".....Sandstrom products invented the stuff with the input of some Army science & engineering "dudes" I know. The Army uses it for touch-up finish on many weapons.

Surfaces must be completey clean, dry & oil free. The coating is resistant to common lubes and has good wear resistance. They make a pen that looks like a magic marker....easy to use & reapply if needed.
